A bathroom remodel is one of the projects we get called about most often across Meridian and the Treasure Valley - usually once a homeowner notices one of these five signs. Here's what we look for during a free in-home estimate, and what typically needs attention.
1. Grout and Caulk That Keep Coming Back Stained or Cracked
If you're re-caulking the shower every few months and the grout still looks dingy right after cleaning, that's usually a sign the tile and grout are past the point where surface fixes help. A proper remodel replaces the grout and re-seals the whole system instead of patching it again.
2. A Shower Floor or Wall That Feels Soft or Sounds Hollow
Tap on the tile near the shower floor or a lower wall. A hollow or soft sound usually means water has gotten behind the tile and the substrate underneath is compromised. This is one of the more serious signs, since it usually means the waterproofing membrane failed and needs to be rebuilt, not just re-tiled on the surface.
3. An Outdated Layout That's Hard to Clean or Doesn't Fit Your Household
A lot of Treasure Valley homes still have the layout they shipped with - a cramped shower-tub combo, a vanity that's too small, or a single sink where a growing family really needs two. A remodel is the chance to fix the layout itself, not just refresh the finishes.
4. Cold, Uncomfortable Flooring
Older bathroom flooring is often thin ceramic tile with no insulation underneath, which stays cold through an Idaho winter. Modern porcelain tile or luxury vinyl plank installs can include a heated floor system, which is one of the most-requested upgrades we build into remodels.
5. You're Planning to Sell in the Next Few Years
Bathrooms are one of the first things buyers notice, and a dated or worn one can hold back an otherwise well-kept home. A well-planned remodel is one of the more reliable ways to improve how a home shows, and pairs naturally with new engineered hardwood or LVP flooring elsewhere in the house.
